THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!!! We’ve surpassed 500 followers on this little ol’ Tumblr. And we’re just getting started!
This Tumblr, 365 Days of Ward, was created in conjunction with the upcoming release of Ward’s biography Full Steam Ahead!, which will be out in less than six months.
The Tumblr was conceived by Ward’s biographer Amid Amidi. It is curated by Amidi and animator extraordinaire Michael Ruocco.
A reminder: if you have any questions about Ward, his work, his life or the book, feel free to ask.

Yes, yes, I confess! I’m a part of this. (cries) Nah, I kid. It’s been a real blast putting this thing together! Although I wouldn’t consider myself an “extraordinaire” (give me at least 50 more years), I’m flattered and humbled to be a part of something involving one of my favorite animators of all time!Seriously though, subscribe and ask questions! We won’t bite… well, Amid might, but I won’t.

Just kidding, Amid!Smear-lovers, if you really think animation can do some amazing, impossible things, check out one of the most influential, revolutionary and (possibly) insane spearheads in the history of the medium. Besides bringing to life such classic Disney characters as Jiminy Cricket, the Mad Hatter and March Hare and the crows in Dumbo among countless others, but he also had a hit jazz band during the 40’s and 50’s, flew airplanes, illustrated in magazines and even owned SEVERAL LIFE-SIZE STEAM LOCOMOTIVES IN HIS BACKYARD! What a crazy and gifted individual!
Do yourself a favor, if you haven’t already, and follow this blog! And if you like what you see, pick up a copy of his biography coming out this fall, which is FILLED to the brim with great art and even greater stories about his life and career.

Drawing by Ward Kimball for Donald’s 50th Birthday (1984).

Another great post from the 365 Days of Ward Kimball blog, which I highly recommend you eccentric animator fans to follow and check out every day!
Since today’s Donald’s 78th birthday, the rest of the day will be Donald-centric smears!
